COMPETITION KICKS OFF AT 2022 TOYOTA U.S. FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS


The first day of competition at the 2022 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships got underway with the juniors on Tuesday at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

In the junior pairs short program, Sonia Baram and Daniel Tioumentsev (Los Angeles FSC/Dallas FSC) lead the way with 62.26 points, followed by the duos of Isabelle Martins and Ryan Bedard (Chicago FSC/Northern Ice SC) with 54.89 points, and Cayla Smith and Andy Deng (Fort Wayne ISC) with 48.70 points. Baram and Tioumentsev’s performance was highlighted by a triple twist, as well as a Level 4 lift and Level 4 spin.

Will Annis (SC of Boston) leads the way in the junior men’s competition after

scoring 75.81 points in the short program. Kai Kovar (Wasatch FSC) is second with 68.70 points, followed closely by Maxim Zharkov (Dallas FSC), who is third with 67.07 points. Annis’ clean program included a triple Axel, triple flip and triple Lutz-triple toeloop combination.

In the junior rhythm dance, Angela Ling and Caleb Wein (Peninsula SC/Washington FSC) are in the top spot headed into the free dance after earning 64.99 points on Tuesday night. Magic City FSC’s Leah Neset and Artem Markelov are second with 64.31 points, while Vanessa Pham and Jonathan Rogers (SC of Houston/Texas Gulf Coast FSC) are in third with 55.36 points.

The 2022 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships will continue on Wednesday with the free skates in junior ladies, junior men and junior pairs. Full results can be found here.
