2022 TOYOTA U.S. FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS GET UNDERWAY THIS WEEK


The 2022 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships will be held Jan. 3-9, 2022, at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. Throughout the week, over 170 figure skaters will vie for eight U.S. titles in the disciplines of ladies, men's, pairs and ice dance.

The U.S. Championships serve as the final competition prior to the nomination of the 2022 U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team. U.S. Figure Skating will also name the 2022 World Figure Skating Team and the 2022 Four Continents Figure Skating Team following the competition. The 2022 World Junior Figure Skating Team will be named following the conclusion of the World Junior Selection Camp, set for Jan. 10-12 in Bellevue, Tennessee.

The U.S. Championships return to Nashville for just the second time, with the event first taking place at the newly opened Bridgestone Arena in in 1997. Nashville is home to Olympic champion Scott Hamilton, who founded the Scott Hamilton Skating Academy, which highlights the strength and growth of the Nashville skating community. Official practice begins Monday, Jan. 3. Competition begins at 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Jan. 4 with the junior pairs short program. Championship-level competition begins Thursday, Jan. 6 with the pairs short program.

Fans will have ample opportunities to watch competitions in the United States and across the World. In the United States, NBC Universal will feature over 15 hours of live coverage on NBC and USA Network. Coverage begins on Thursday, Jan. 6 on USA with the pairs short program (5-7 p.m. ET) and ladies short program (8:30-10:30 p.m. ET). On Friday, Jan. 7, the rhythm dance will be on USA (4-6 p.m. ET), before the ladies free skate primetime broadcast on NBC (8-11 p.m. ET). On Saturday, the men's short program will take the ice on NBC (4-6 p.m. ET), before the pairs free skate and free dance on USA (7-10 p.m. ET). Additionally, U.S. Figure Skating's women's nominations to the U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team will take place during NBC's broadcast of the men's short program. On Sunday, the U.S. Championships will conclude with the men's free skate on NBC (2-4 p.m. ET).

On Saturday, Jan. 15, NBC will feature an encore broadcast of the free dance from 3-4 p.m. ET, before a premiere broadcast of the Prevagen Skating Spectacular from 4-6 p.m.

Terry Gannon will handle play-by-play responsibilities throughout the competition on NBC and USA and will be joined by 1998 Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski and three-time U.S. champion Johnny Weir who will commentate on the ladies, men's and pairs competition. 2006 Olympic silver medalist Tanith White also be on the call for the ice dance segments and reporter Andrea Joyce will join the broadcast team backstage.

All junior- and championship-level competition can be viewed live and on-demand on Peacock Premium. Additionally, the Practice Cam will return to Peacock, allowing fans to watch championship-level practices and warm-ups at Bridgestone Arena.

The 2022 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships will be available worldwide, making it the most widely distributed U.S. Figure Skating Championships® since the competition began in 1914. Fans will be able to watch in Japan (JSport), Mexico and the Caribbean (Sky Mexico), and in all other countries and territories with Olympic Channel. In all, the 2022 U.S. Championships will be available in over 250 countries and territories.

Toyota, the U.S. Championship's title sponsor, will also feature the Toyota Good Luck Boulevar, a special backstage activation for the athletes competing at the U.S. Championships that will allow fans from across the world to send messages of support to them via the online form.

Fans can visit the 2022 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships Virtual Fan Experience for event recaps, athlete interviews, live results and more throughout the U.S. Championships.

In conjunction with the Championships, nearly 150 athletes at the juvenile, intermediate and novice levels will descend on the National High Performance Development Team Camp, set for Jan. 10-12 in Bellevue, Tennessee. The athletes earned the right to attend the camp based on their placement in the 2022 U.S. Figure Skating Championship Series presented by Toyota. The camp features competitive group training, both on and off the ice, which rotates between instruction sessions and opportunities for athletes to showcase their best skills. Off-ice sessions will include specialty dance sessions, lifts, sports science, learning from officials, preparation for Team USA and unique performance sessions.
