Turnovers Doom #10 Women's Lacrosse Against #4 University of the Cumberlands

Williamsburg, Ky.- The women's lacrosse team went back on the road for their sixth straight game, facing a ranked opponent for the second time in that span. The 10th-ranked team traveled north to Williamsburg, Ky. to take on the fourth-ranked University of the Cumberlands Lady Patriots.

The Lady Bulldogs began the game at a disadvantage as the team was only able to play 10 players for the entire game. Once the game started, things did not get much better with turnovers plaguing the Lady Bulldogs in the first half as the team's first nine possessions ended in a turnover. The turnovers helped Cumberlands score the first ten goals of the game. MiKayla Virden broke the streak with her goal at the 12:15 mark but the team could not carry the momentum though, going into the half trailing 15-1.

Lauryn Smith got a goal in off a Virden assist for Tennessee Wesleyan five minutes into the second half, but shots from Taylor Minauskas and Grace Passantino missed their mark as the comeback attempt commenced.  Turnovers continued to be an issue in the game for the Lady Bulldogs though and a second goal from Virden and Smith was not enough to get the team back in the game, going on to fall 23-4.

The two goals for Smith is a new career-high.

The next chance to get back in the win column for TWU (3-4) comes next Saturday when the team jumps back into Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Waleska, Ga. to take on #7 Reinhardt University in a matchup of the two preseason favorites in the AAC at 2:00 PM.
