MEN'S 2022 U.S. OLYMPIC FIGURE SKATING TEAM NOMINATED

U.S. Figure Skating announced today the men who will compete at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 as part of the U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team. 

The men’s singles team is Jason Brown, Nathan Chen and Vincent Zhou (listed in alphabetical order).

Jason Brown is the 2022 U.S. pewter medalist and 2015 U.S. champion. He is a 2014 Olympic bronze medalist (team event) and placed ninth overall in Sochi, Russia. After medaling at both of his Grand Prix Series assignments this season, Brown qualified for his second Grand Prix Final (the event was ultimately canceled). The Illinois-native placed seventh at the 2021 World Championships and is the 2020 Four Continents silver medalist.

Nathan Chen is the 2022 U.S. champion, which marked his sixth-straight U.S. title. He is

the three-time and reigning World champion and Grand Prix Final champion (he also qualified for the 2021 Final but the event was canceled). Chen is a 2018 Olympic bronze medalist (team event) and finished fifth in the men’s event in PyeongChang, South Korea, where he became the first skater to land six quadruple jumps in a single program with his winning free skate. He is also the first man in the world to receive credit for landing five different types of quadruple jumps in international competition.

Vincent Zhou is the 2022 U.S. bronze medalist and five-time U.S. medalist. He is the 2019 World and Four Continents bronze medalist and placed sixth at the Olympic Winter Games in 2018. Zhou won his first Grand Prix title this season at 2021 Guaranteed Rate Skate America and captured silver at NHK Trophy, qualifying for his first Grand Prix Final (which was canceled). 

Alternates for the 2022 men’s Olympic Team have been named as Ilia Malinin (first alternate), Camden Pulkinen (second alternate) and Jimmy Ma (third alternate).

The men join previously nominated athletes Mariah Bell, Karen Chen, Alysa Liu, Ashley Cain-Gribble and Timothy LeDuc, Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier, Madison Chock and Evan Bates, Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker, and Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue on the 2022 U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team. 
 
U.S. Figure Skating also confirmed that each member of the U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team is eligible to compete in the Olympic team event. U.S. Figure Skating will work with athletes and their coaches to determine if the athlete will participate in the event. 
 
Each team in the event will consist of one woman, one man, one pairs team and one ice dance team to be selected from athletes who have qualified in their individual disciplines. Each team, however, will be allowed to make up to two exchanges after the short program/rhythm dance. The team event will consist of the 10 best national teams from NOCs/ISU members. The five teams with the highest number of points after the short program/rhythm dance will qualify for the free skate/dance. In the team event, athletes will receive points based on their finishes in each segment of competition.

The 2022 Olympic Winter Games will take place Feb. 4-20, in Beijing, China.
 
Women and men will be named to the 2022 U.S. World Junior Team following the conclusion of the World Junior Singles Camp, Jan. 31-Feb. 1 in Norwood, Massachusetts.

All U.S. Olympic Team nominations are subject to approval by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC).
